As I am writing this, I am crashing out over what is honestly semi reasonable requests.
Context
I have a website design and development agency. I am currently delivering on some Founder's Program clients which essentially means I am giving out my highest level of service for a stupid low rate in return for reviews.
This is sounds like a great plan, except the time commitment as atrocious. I making less than minimum wage. I have particular client that is wanting changes to his website after it has been delivered and considered complete. Again, there isn't anything inherently wrong with this, but for the amount of time it requires I hate it.
I am now seeing why almost all contractors add a "3 revisions" limit to their services, because if you don't (I didn't) people will just abuse you. This isn't intentional, but some people are jst more needy than others.
Why do people constantly ask for revisions?
"It must be perfect"
I was trying to figure out why people would always ask for changes when it came to visual things. It is as simple as, because they can see it. They have an idea of what perfection looks like, and for some people it leads to them being in constant "it must be perfect" loop. This comes from someones identity in a way being displayed in the visual work they commissioned, a website in my case.
If you think about it, this makes sense. Because they can see it, they can see the "imperfections." When it comes to something like building out an automations for a client, it is far more black or white. It either works or doesn't work, they have less opinions on how it gets done so long as it works.
Going forward
So what am I going to do address this? Honestly, I may not mind if was getting paid more, but I'm not. For the particular client that I have in mind I am realizing now that I shouldn't have sold them into my founders plan, they didn't qualify and I pushed them through. The qualifications existed for a reason, for the exact reason to mitigate these kind of issues. Another thing that I am realizing, people who pay more have less to say and trust expertise more. The likely answer to charge more in either situation. Either I charge more so that the constant requests are worth my time, or I am working with people who want someone to manage the website for them and care less about doing it themselves.
